The Czech rider continued to improve on his MotoE bike, lowering his lap times with every outing on track at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit.
The 2020 MotoE World Cup officially began this Friday with the first day of Free Practice at the Spanish Grand Prix. Jakub Kornfeil continued progressing alongside the WithU Motorsport team, and on his second day with a MotoE bike he managed to take over 1.5 seconds off his time from the test earlier in the week.
The WithU Motorsport rider started the day well, riding a second faster than on Wednesday on his very first run. In FP1, Kornfeil continued to work hard at familiarising himself with the bike and defining a setup for this weekend. He put in nine laps with a best time of 1:52.485 established on his fifth try.
Free Practice 2 was held amidst strong winds and heat in Jerez. However, that did not prevent Kornfeil from lowering his lap times, being one of four riders on the MotoE grid to do so – even with a used tyre. The Czech rider accumulated another nine laps of the track and finished the day with a top time of 1:52.111.
Tomorrow at 11:50 am local time, the third and final Free Practice will take place. The opening E-Pole session of the season gets underway at 4:05pm.
#84 JAKUB KORNFEIL
“I am happy with how this first day of Free Practice went. The most important thing is that I am improving lap-by-lap and I am faster on every run. Furthermore, I am able to enjoy the bike more and more as I understand it better. I know I still have a lot of room for improvement, but we are working steadily and that is a good thing. FP2 was somewhat difficult because it was very windy, but we continued to accumulate laps with the used tyre and we made further progress. I’m looking forward to tomorrow; in FP3 we will look for a fast lap and we will prepare well for the E-Pole session.”
