The WithU Motorsport rider cut more than a second off his best time from Friday and will start the first race of the year from the sixth row of the grid.
Jakub Kornfeil and WithU Motorsport continued their hard work on the second day of the Spanish GP. The Czech rider improved his time from Friday by more than a second and will debut in a MotoE World Cup race from 16th position.
During FP3 in the morning, Kornfeil spent much of the session working on his race pace. On his second run, he put together a streak of six consecutive laps and clocked a best time of 1:51.562.
In the afternoon, the WithU Motorsport rider was the first to go out on track to participate in the first E-Pole session of 2020. Despite the high temperatures at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit, Kornfeil continued to progress and claimed his best time on a MotoE bike to date. The Czech rider’s hot lap was a 1:51.012, meaning he will start from the sixth row of the grid, in 16th position.
The 7-lap MotoE World Cup race will take place on Sunday at 10:05am local time.
#84 JAKUB KORNFEIL
“This has been my first participation in an E-Pole and the truth is that I really like this format. You have to be fast over just one lap and that is something very special. I felt good, I was able to ride fast immediately, and I decided to push to the maximum from the out lap to carry over my pace. The E-Pole was my best time of the weekend; I wasn’t expecting to hit the low 1:51s in such hot conditions, so I’m happy.
Overall, the weekend has been difficult, as today was my third day in the MotoE bike, but I’m trying to improve in the shortest time possible. For the race, my goal is to stay in the front groups for as long as possible and continue learning and taking steps forward in the competition. My rivals are very fast and it won’t be easy, but we’ll give our best. I am really enjoying the bike and working with the team, so this is the most important thing.”
